National PC second phase commenced!


Innovations Day was held on June 30, 2010 in Hyatt Hotel aimed at discussing cooperation between the government and private initiative to eliminate digital disparity in Azerbaijan and provide information access to various groups of population. Innovations Day had been organized by Microsoft Azerbaijan, Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies with the support of HP and Bestcomp Group. 

The Innovations Day included the signature of the agreement to commence second stage of National PC Project. Implementation of the second stage will involve Microsoft Azerbaijan, Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies, Ministry of Education, HP and Bestcomp Group. 

Agreement was signed by Rufat Gulmamedov, head of Information Society Development Division, Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies, Ismayil Sadigov, head of Education Management Information Systems Division, Ministry of Education, Teymur Akhundov, General Representative, Microsoft Azerbaijan, Rufat Hajialibekov, General Representative, and HP Azerbaijan. 

Primary goal of National PC is to provide teachers and students with favorable conditions to buy modern PC and licensed software; to reduce digital disparity by wider introduction of ICT in regions and to support the activities of the Government of Azerbaijan aimed at development of information society and e-government. 

Under the first stage, commenced in April 2009, teachers were able to buy 7705 computers and licensed software at concessional terms. 

In accordance with terms and conditions of the Agreement, in addition to teachers, National PC will provide opportunities for secondary and tertiary school students to buy PCs and licensed software. 

All equipment will be provided on lending terms with 12 months maturity and 0% interest rate. Total cost of PCs and licensed software package offered under the National PC project, will be 25-40% lower than market prices.  Those, who buy the PCs under the National PC project, will be provided with reference materials on PCs, Internet and, also, relevant electronic teaching materials, offered by the Ministry of Education. Aztelecom will also provide 100 hours Internet Access Card to each PC buyer. 

AzerPost will be responsible for PCs delivery and collection of monthly payments. BestComp Group, which is the local partner of HP and Microsoft, will be responsible for the supply of computers.
